If you are interested in one of our adoptable Dachshunds, use the Contact Us link to the left
to send an email to Adopt. Please put the dog's name in the Subject line. When we receive your completed adoption application, we will call your veterinarian and references. When that is done, a home check will be scheduled. This is simply to assure the dog will have a safe environment. When everything is approved, you will be able to take your new fur friend home.

Thank you for deciding to adopt - not shop. At MHDR, our primary goal is finding the best home for each of our rescued Dachshunds. To do that, our process starts off with an adoption application. The application asks questions that will help us help you find the best fit for your family and lifestyle. When you complete and return the application, we will make calls to your personal references and to the veterinarian who sees your companion pets. After that, one of our volunteers will call you to schedule an appointment for an in-person home visit. This visit is simply to assure that your residence will provide a safe, secure forever home for your new family member.

Some frequently asked questions about the adoption process are:

How long does it take to be approved? Usually, the process can be completed within one to two weeks.

What if I don't see a dog I am interested in right now? Keep watching the Adoptable Dachshunds page here. When you see a doxie you are interested in, use the Contact Us form (to the left) to request an application from Adopt in the drop-down list.

What is the adoption fee? The MHDR adoption fee includes all current vaccinations, a spay or neuter if needed, any dental work that will affect the dog's health and quality of life, and tests for heartworm and internal parasites. The adoption fee for puppies through 12 months of age is $400; adult dogs are $300; bonded pairs $400.

What if I just moved here and don't have a local vet or what if I don't have any animal companions right now? If you have recently moved here, give contact information for the vet who previously took care of your pets. If you don't have pets right now, give contact information for the vet who took care of your pets in the past.
